Delivering the Installation of 4.5km of Street Lighting Cable at Condorrat in Cumbernauld.

At Fusion Electrical and Civils Ltd, we specialise in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects with precision, safety, and efficiency. We recently Installed 4.5 kilometres of street-lighting cable in an urban environment, at Condorrat in Cumbernauld near Glasgow. Acting as a Sub-Contractor for Hochtief Ltd, this was a major undertaking that combined complex civils work, electrical expertise, and coordinated project management.

This work included trenching and duct installation as well as cable pulling and reinstatement.

1. Planning, Surveys & Project Preparation

Every Fusion project begins with thorough preparation. Before excavation begins, teams review utility records, complete CAT & Genny scans, undertake trial holes, coordinate traffic management, and ensure all materials and labour are scheduled for the full programme.

2. Trenching Through Varied Ground Conditions

Fusion excavated through a variety of environments including carriageways, footpaths, verges, and urban and rural areas. Work included surface cutting, excavating to the appropriate depth and width, controlling spoil, and managing safety around existing utilities.

3. Installing Ducts, Draw Ropes & Infrastructure

Ducting was installed once trenches had been prepared. Fusion installed PVC ducts at correct gradients, installed draw ropes and connected ducting into column foundations, we also completed crossings via open cuts.

4. Backfilling, Reinstatement & Surface Restoration

The trenches were reinstated using fine bedding, selected backfill, and compacted layers. Warning tape was installed, and final surfaces such as tarmac, concrete, grass or block paving were restored to specification.

5. Pulling and Installing Street Lighting Cables

Fusion’s electrical teams pulled LV street-lighting cables using winches, rollers, and controlled tension equipment. Cables were terminated in columns, feeder pillars, or chambers before being labelled and tested.
